Goals

I just found my 8th Grade Memory Book - Class of '98.

We each had to have a silhouette of ourselves done and write a little poem thing in the same style.  Mine says:

Meghan
Sensitive, loving, caring, helpful
Only child of Nancy and Jeff
Lover of animals, art, and children
Who feels happy, excited, and ebullient
Who needs family, friends, and love
Who gives friendship, love, and a listening ear
Who fears death, spiders, and sharks
Who would like to see the Caribbean, the Eiffel Tower, and the bottom of the ocean
Descendant of Norwegian ancestors.

Don't you just love my use of "ebullient"? What a nerd.
Well, I don't really fear spiders anymore and I like how in one line I say I fear sharks and in the next I say I want to see the bottom of the ocean.  Hmmm.

I can cross off the Caribbean and the Eiffel Tower.

It's funny to see what I thought was important to mention at the age of 13.  Also, it's interesting to see how much of this has stayed the same.

Here's how I would write it now:

Meghan
Optimistic, Extroverted, Introverted, Funny
Only child of Nancy and Jeff
Lover of animals, art, and children
Who feels excited, nervous, and generally stumped
Who needs family, friends, and margaritas
Who gives friendship, comedy relief, and unsolicited advice
Who fears clowns, change, and the unknown
Who would like to see Greece, Australia, and the Alps
Descendant of Norwegian, German, Irish, Welsh, and English ancestors.

I also see that the first page says, "May the Lord remain constantly at your side and in His mercy guide your journey in ways that are pleasing to Him".  Yeah, no thanks.

The class motto was: "I always know that when I would look back on the timed I cried, I would laugh.  But I never knew that when I would look back on the times I laughed, I would cry".  Got schumltz?

The class song was: "There Goes My Hero" by the Foo Fighters.

The class flower was: White Rose.

Holy cow this feels like forever ago.  I really loved the motto too.  I thought we really would be constantly looking back on 8th grade.  Um...no.
It was pre-all girl's high school.  Pre-9/11. Pre-California.  Pre-college.  Pre-Bush.  Pre-War. Pretty much Pre-Everything.

So now I have officially posted the thoughts of a 13 year old girl here.  Scary.
